The other night I went to Pisces, a restaurant in the Sunset district that was reviewed on the PBS show "Check, Please." Here are pictures of the food we had.
Fried calamari and asparagus
Raw Oysters
Smoked salmon and asparagus rolls
Seared shrimp with aioli
Beef short ribs with caramelized onions, spinach and mashed potatoes
I baked these the other day. Banana cupcakes with chocolate ganache and cream cheese frosting. The recipe was found in the newspaper and it's from Kara's Cupcakes, a bay area cupcake chain, my favorite.
Back in the olden days before people used cell phones, they used these. They're called telephone booths. You have to insert a coin to make a call that only lasts a few minutes. And they aren't portable
The family and I went to a seafood in San Francisco on Fillmore St. I don't recall the name of the restaurant. It started with Wood--------. The calamari was good, but unfortunately the lobster roll was only alright.
My mom enjoyed a vacation in Hawaii without me. =( She did bring home some nice pictures of the food she enjoyed. The first is of the food at the Korean fair she went to. The second is of some cupcakes from the Hokulani bakeshop. She says the lilikoi cupcakes with lemon cream cheese frosting was amazing. I've got to try to make some of those.
Yesterday some nursing student and I visited a Parenting place for those with special needs children. It was really interesting learning about all the different equipment and techniques they use to help these children. This is a picture of a physical therapist and a chair that facilitates walking practice and muscle tone for a child with quadriplegia.
A closeup of the banana nut muffins I made tonight for school tomorrow. First time I've made them, but it's my mom's old recipe from a while ago. Turned out nice.
This is us at night. We are the Na vi. We are tall, blue and things glow at night in Pandora. Just kidding. We are inside a toy shop with black lights.
Friends and I went to Kara's Cupcake shop in Palo Alto. Their cupcakes really are better than those at Sprinkles. The frosting is very soft, smooth, and creamy. The cake was soft and moist, but at $3.25, these babies aren't cheap.
This is the dragon roll my friends and I shared from Ni-mo's Japanese restaurant in San Mateo. I must say that I like Old town Sushi better. Ni-mo's did not give as much unagi, and it was mostly avocado on top. Their bento dinner wasn't as big either.
Today I went with my family and grandmother to Pacific Catch Seafood Restaurant. It's in San Francisco. I got three tacos, one grilled mahi mahi, fried fish, and fried shrimp. They came with sweet potato fries.
I went to Quickly in downtown San Mateo with friends. Above is the peach snowball with tapioca, which was quite tasty. I'm definitely going to get that again.
This is the fried octopus. It's a little different tasting than squid, or fried calamari. I can now say that I've tried octopus.
I went over to my friend's house to make traditional Phillipino lumpia. We used ground pork, shredded carrots, chopped celery, onion, garlic, some salt and pepper, and bean sprouts.
Mixing the filling
Frying the lumpia
The final product. Nice and golden brown. They were delicious.
I ordered the combination dinner, which included a Dragon Roll which has crab meat, unagi, avocado, tempura shrimp, and salmon roe.
The huge plate of chicken teriyaki that also came with the dinner. Old Town Sushi is the Japanese restaurant to go to if you want large portions and good tasting food. Right in Downtown San Mateo on B Street.
So friends and I went to Teacake Cupcakes store on Burlingame Ave. and I got pink velvet and chocolate cupcakes. A little disappointed. Not as good as Sprinkles.
Friends and I went to Naked Fish Japanese restaurant in Millbrae for lunch. We had a coupon for this free soft shell crab appetizer, which was alright. Overall though, the food was subpar, and they even charge for to-go boxes, which is crazy. Oh, by the way, their Happy house bento boxes aren't so happy when you can't do substitutions.
Monday was our last day of wearing all white scrubs, as well as the last clinical day for our second semester. I'll be wearing colored scrubs during the summer for pediatrics and maternity. So excited!
So I made brownies to bring to dinner with friends. 2 dozen brownies. I think I need to put them a little lower in the oven. The tops got done before the rest of the brownies, but they turned out alright.
That's either one expensive burger, or a really expensive bottle of Dom Perignon. Must be delicious alcohol, although I'm not a big fan of alcohol. click to enlarge
The book I am reading for my Child Development class. Whatever It Takes. Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to rotate the picture sadly. The book is about education and child development.
Went to Nubi in Millbrae with friends. This is my cup of frozen yogurt. There's original, french vanilla/chocolate swirl, and RED VELVET CUPCAKE flavored frozen yogurt, with cheesecake, cookie dough, and mochi toppings, and raspberry syrup. Sorry, remembered to take a pic halfway through eating my fro yo.
so for lunch we went to Pho Saigon in San Mateo. They have such good Vietnamese soups and other dishes. I got pork and egg rolls with vermicelli and vegetables. Yum!! Good price too.
